The Presidency Debunks Speculations Surrounding Former SSNIT Boss’s Removal from Office

The Presidency has said contrary to speculations of misconduct or malfeasance surrounding Dr John Ofori-Tenkorang sack, his exit from office is part of government’s on-going restructuring efforts.

There have been some speculations in the media that the former SSNIT Boss may have misconducted himself in office which may have resulted in the termination of his appointment.

But the Presidency has clarified that Dr John Ofori-Tenkorang’s exit from the position of Director-General of SSNIT has nothing to do with any form of misconduct or malfeasance on his part.

In a press release issued on Friday, 12th April, the Presidency emphatically stated that “Dr Ofori-Tenkorang’s exit from office is part of the ongoing restructuring of Government being undertaken by President Akufo-Addo.”

According to the Statement, “the President is satisfied with the performance of Dr Ofori-Tenkorang as Director-General of SSNIT in the past seven years, as the institution, under his watch, witnessed some impressive transformation.”

“The President thanks him for his services to the nation,” the statement ended.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has terminated the appointment of the Director-General of the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) Dr. John Ofori Tenkorang, effective 15th April, 2024.

In a letter by the Executive Secretary to the President, Nana Bediatuo Asante on Monday, 8th April, Dr. Tenkorang’s appointment was terminated and was directed to hand over his office to Kofi Bosompem Osafo-Maafo by Monday, April 15.

“Reference is made to your appointment letter dated 1st July 2019, issued by the Public Services Commission.

In accordance with paragraph 8 of the said appointment letter, I regret to inform you that the President has terminated your appointment effective 15th April, 2024 with three (3) months’ salary in lieu of notice.

“You are directed to hand over your office to Mr. Kofi Bosompem Osafo-Maafo and proceed to collect any terminal benefits you may be entitled to.

“To ensure a smooth transition, kindly hand over and cease to act as the Director-General of the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) no later than the close of business on Monday, 15th April, 2024. The President thanks you for your service to the nation and extends his best wishes,” the letter stated.
