President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has commissioned a GHC5 million 300-bed capacity accommodation for young Soldiers at the 37 Military Hospital in Accra.
The building, which began in 2016 and was funded with the internally generated fund of the 37 Military Hospital, stalled in 2018 but was resuscitated in 2021 through the intervention of Jospong Groups of Companies.
Named after Dr Joseph Siaw Agyepong, CEO of doubled bed Groups of Companies, the block has 48 rooms, equipped with 150 doubled bed, 3 common rooms and other facilities to be allocated to 300 junior soldiers whose accommodation has been a challenge to the hospital’s management over the years.
President Akufo-Addo commended the Jospong Group of Companies for the intervention and urged other stakeholders to partner with the hospital in other areas of need.
He said the government was committed to the welfare of the men and women of the Ghana Armed Forced and would remain true to the commitment his Party’s promised in it made in its 2016 manifesto.
Dr Joseph Siaw Agyepong on his part pledged to continue to contribute to the development of the hospital and the country as a whole.
At a separate event, President Akufo-Addo received on behalf of Ghana the United Nations Fields Hospital donated by the Wealth Health Organization (WHO), a key facility in the management of the COVID pandemic and purposely equipped to manage other emergencies. He then handed it over to the GAF.
President Akufo-Addo also presented to the Ghana Armed Forces some 70 Carma utility vehicles, 20 BTRs, 70 armoured personnel carriers, 20 husky armoured vehicles, 65 assorted Toyota vehicles and several communication Gadgets at a short ceremony.
While at the Burma Camp, the President also commissioned a newly constructed Chief of Defence Staff Office Complex building and cut sod for the construction of a general headquarters office complex and 2000 housing units for the navy.
President Akufo-Addo also inspected an armoured bullion van assembling plant and later joined the men and women of the Ghana Armed Forces to celebrate their annual WASSA.
