Okraku Mantey loses parliamentary bid for Ayensuano Constituency

The Deputy Minister of Tourism, Arts, and Culture, Mark Okraku Mantey, has encountered a setback in his political ambitions as he has lost the bid to become the Parliamentary Candidate for the Ayensuano Constituency in the Eastern Region.

The minister who had been eyeing the parliamentary seat, faced stiff competition from Ida Adjoa Asiedu, a prominent businesswoman with a strong local presence.

The spotlight of victory shone brightly on his opponent, Ida Adjoa Asiedu, who secured a resounding 410 votes out of 658 valid votes cast, marking a clear mandate from the party members while the minister among other aspirants gathered 136 votes.

The other three aspirants who also participated in the intense race including Samuel Ayeh-Paye garnered 105 votes, while Kingsley Boateng managed to secure 4 votes. Ernest Addo polled the least with just 3 votes.

In 2020, the now parliamentary candidate for the NPP, Ida Adjoa Asiedu contested the former Member of Parliament for the area then incumbent Ayeh Paye but lost marginally and has now been given the mandate.


The Deputy Minister of Tourism, Arts & Culture, Hon. Mark Okraku-Mantey On Friday, July 15, 2023, accompanied by party executives, the government official collected his nomination form from the constituency’s party office in a bid to reclaim the Ayensuano seat for the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Addressing a crowd of supportive residents, the accomplished businessman expressed his vision to “transform the community and empower my people.”

He pledged to attract businesses to the area and enhance the overall quality of life for its residents.

During the 2020 elections, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) secured the Ayensuano seat, defeating the ruling party’s candidate, Hon. Samuel Ayeh-Paye, with Teddy Nana Yaw Addi emerging victorious.
