Prior to this, mobile money sellers claimed that the refusal of their clients to pay the E-levy was putting their companies in danger of going out of business.
Four months following the tax measure’s introduction, they claimed that the phenomenon has led to a considerable drop in transactions and low income.

According to him, the review also aims to make sure that many Ghanaians pay the levy.

On September 28, 2022, Ken Ofori-Atta told the media in Accra that the revision of the E-levy is one of the steps that will enable the government increase its domestic revenue mobilization.

“Such exercises form part of an ongoing drive to ensure we take significant steps forward in remedying long-standing challenges with domestic revenue mobilization, indiscipline, corruption, and leakages.

“Of course, heightened tax compliance and increased tax audit exercises will continue to be complemented by policy initiatives that allow us to tap into a wider pool of taxpayers in the years ahead.

“Towards this therefore we are looking at areas around the E-Levy to ensure its efficient implementation.”

In other news, Queen Elizabeth II, monarch of the United Kingdom of the Great Britain and Northern Ireland’s death certificate has been leaked to the public and cause of death revealed too.
