The Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) will hold elections on August 8, its National Executive Committee has said in a press release.

MUSIGA’s election announcement comes up after 4 years of court injunctions and postponement.

The Umbrella body has failed to organize elections since the end of the tenure of Bice Osei Kuffuor in 2019.

Acting President of the Union, Bessa Simons in the statement said the NEC of the union had met in a crunch emergency meeting to review and approve the proposed blueprint by the election committee.

“According to the roadmap, the voters register has been opened from March 20 to April 3, 2023. This is to allow members to check their status and eligibility. Thereafter, the new voters’ register for the election will be compiled from April 4 to April 18, 2023,” he said in the signed press release.

The roadmap to the upcoming elections will include an exhibition of a new voter register from April 20 to April 23, 2023, followed by campaigns of the various candidates ahead of the August 8 elections across the nation.

Following the numerous court cases filed against the union by its members, the NEC said the fresh elections will provide the opportunity for new leaders to marshall members for a biennial conference to reassess the Union’s constitution.
