Kylian Mbappe is set to miss the first leg of Paris Saint-Germain’s Champions League last 16 clash with Bayern Munich with injury.

The France striker is set to be out for three weeks according to his club, following a thigh injury picked up in their 3-1 win over Montpellier in Ligue 1.

“After undergoing tests, Kylian Mbappé suffered an injury to the left thigh at the level of the femoral biceps,” they wrote in a brief statement.

“He is expected to be out of action for three weeks.”

Despite a vital win at the Stade de la Mosson to go five points clear at the top of the table, Mbappe endured a difficult night culminating in his withdrawal after just 21 minutes.

Handed the opportunity to add to his 13 league goals so far in the campaign from the penalty spot after just 10 minutes, Mbappe saw his effort saved by Benjamin Lecomte.

However, after it was adjudged that the Montpellier stopper had moved off his line early, the penalty was ordered to be retaken but Mbappe was again denied when the keeper tipped his strike round the post.

Ultimately, second half goals from Fabian Ruiz, Lionel Messi and 16-year-old Warren Zaire-Emery were enough to secure the win, but manager Christophe Galtier will now be left sweating on the fitness of one of his star men.

Mbappe is set to miss vital games in Ligue 1, including matches against Monaco and Lille, and a French Cup clash with Marseille, as well as the Bayern clash.

PSG host the German champions at the Parc des Princes on Tuesday 14th February, with the return leg at the Allianz Arena on March 8.
