Ghanaian broadcaster, Kafui Dey is on a mission to combat illegal mining in Ghana and wants to use any means possible to bring the world’s attention to the problem.

The GTV host used music promotion to advocate against ‘galamsey’ by submitting Stonebwoy’s ‘anti-galamsey’ song, ‘GREEDY MEN,’ for the GRAMMY’s ‘Best Song For Social Change’ category.

Kafui posted on Twitter, encouraging others to do the same:

“I have just submitted  @stonebwoy’s anti-Galamsey song ‘Greedy Men’ to the Grammy @RecordingAcad for consideration in the ‘Best Song for Social Change’ category. Try and do same too.”

The ‘Best Song for Social Change’ category is one of the several awards introduced by the Recording Academy for the 2023 GRAMMYs.

This Special Merit Award, chosen by “a Blue Ribbon Committee and ratified by the Recording Academy Board of Trustees,” is for songs with lyrical content relating to a current social issue in a way that “promotes understanding, peacebuilding, and empathy.”
According to the board, the award honors a song that has had a significant social influence and impact.
Submissions must include lyrical content that: a) addresses a timely social issue; b) explores a subject affecting a community of people in need; and c) promotes awareness, raises consciousness, and builds empathy.
The Award is given to the songwriter(s), and it only recognizes singles or tracks in any musical genre.
The song’s melody and lyrics must be included, and it must have been commercially released within the last five GRAMMY eligibility years.
