Joseph Paul Amoah secured gold for Ghana in the 200m final

Ghana sprinter Joseph Paul Amoah is confident that he is reaching his best-ever level in his career after clinching the gold medal in the men’s 200m final at the 2023 African Games.

Amoah secured his second medal at the 2023 African Games with a 20.70 finish, after initially winning silver for Ghana in the 4×100 Men’s relay final on Wednesday at the Legon Stadium.

Winning gold in the men’s 200m final meant that Joe Paul became the first Ghanaian to win gold at the Games since Ohene Karikari in 1973, yet Amoah’s gaze is set on reaching his highest level, and he insists that he is on the path to attaining his best form after the win.

“I think I’m getting there, I think I’m getting there yeah, I’m trying to get to my 2019 form and even better”, he said after his final race at the Games.

Finishing in fourth place in the men’s 200m final as well was Ghana’s Ibrahim Fuseini, who impressed many in his first-ever competition for Ghana with a finish of 20.85s.

Joseph Paul Amoah was delighted about the youngster’s performance, believing his hard work will pay off in coming competitions and years.

“He’s so humble. I mean those two days coming together, it’s just.. I mean, the sky is the limit for him yeah”, he added.

Ibrahim Fuseini however is still hopeful of booking a place at the Olympics later in France this year after the 2023 African Games and the Games will surely play a role in preparing him, should he qualify for the Olympics.
