In the upcoming fifth round of the Allsvenskan, fans eagerly anticipate a showdown between two formidable teams: Djurgarden and Malmo, the league’s reigning champions.
Djurgarden won the previous league title in 2019 but were not as successful in the following seasons. However, by finishing in the top four, they got the opportunity to play in the European qualifiers. This season started great for them in the Svenska Cupen, reaching the finals, where they will face off against their next league opponent, Malmo. In the league, they had a really tough schedule in the first four games, winning seven points – already five behind 1st-placed Malmo. Even though it is still early, these h2h matchups are very important. If Djurgarden wins, they would close the gap between them to only two points.
Malmo have been great in little over the decade, winning seven league titles in eleven years! Last year, they “stole” the title after beating Elfsborg and eventually winning it due to a better goal difference. This year started great for the Sky Blues in the league and the Svenska Cup. Right now, they are at the top of the league’s table with a maximum of 12 points and already a +11 goal difference. It seems they are the best team in Sweden this year, but now, they will face Djurgarden, a team they failed to beat in the last five h2h games.
Djurgarden vs Malmo pick: Malmo to win
Djurgarden started the season well, winning six of the first eight matches. However, they are coming to this game after a bad 2:0 loss against AIK. Meanwhile, Malmo are in superb form, having won all four league games and keeping a clean sheet in the last three. Including the Cup, the Sky Blues have won eight of nine games.
A close match is definitely expected, but we believe that Malmo is a slightly stronger team and closer to winning the match.
